Yep. There's alot in a name. It's our "brand" - isn't it?

Apparently - according to varying accounts - my first name means either: "joy", "bounty" or "good (singing?) voice" - or something thereabouts.

Quite a crock since I am cranky most of my waking hours and couldn't hold a tune if my life depended on it.

What does "Jake" mean?

-Jake is the supplanter.
-To replace one thing by something else.

This is very approriate. My real name is a derivative form of the first name of Genghis Khan but my first grade teacher couldn't pronounce it properly and started calling me Jake which has supplanted my name ever since.

This was in a time in Hamilton when I was one of a very small number of kids in my school with funny names and smelly lunches.

Neat.

BTW I will likely be in Toronto next week (for a job interview - possible relocation - woohoo!).

I'll likely be very rushed to get back that day, but, if I have time would you & your GF be up for coffee? Would be rather nice to "supplant" the second-life Jake, with some notion of the real one. ;)

Just a thought.

That would be very nice. Let me know exactly when you're available.

I think Toronto is about to explode onto the world scene. Much is percolating here.

Good.

Then... that's exactly where I want to be.

If MTL keeps dicking around arrogantly the way it has been doing - thinking that it can act in socially/politically/economically and constitutionally unsound ways and STILL attract / keep folk here - they will have a pretty rude awakening when they can't stop the bleeding away of disgruntled workers who are tired of having to work for 40% less than what their counterparts make elsewhere (with the added insult-to-injury of Quebec's Draconian tax rates), or people who just want to have a damn family doctor.

Citizens are like lovers: you can only neglect them for so long, before they resolve to pack their bags and never look back.

Toronto seems to do a much better job of making new citizens feel welcome - I read somewhere that the T.O. police dept. answers emergency calls in 16 different languages. Frankly, I'm impressed.

Sorry for the rant. I think it has been festering for quite a while... I really should stop going on comment rampages on other ppl's blogs! :)

I'll be in touch later.

Your comment rampages are sometimes worthy of postings themselves.

Maybe you should channel them that way again. We miss your postings but look forward to having you in T.O.

Soon.
